Any member of the ATLAS FCal project can participate in the site development (in particular, add new and modify existing pages, add notes, figures, pictures etc). Ask me for the user name and the password necessary to get a modification access to the site.

Please, upload existing test beam-related documents and notes, especially those that are formatted with MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint etc). As an option, think of converting to a more compact (and Linux-compatible) PDF format before uploading (for example, by using a CERN Conversion Service, or http://www.neevia.com/express/, or with a locally installed converter application, like Neevia docuPrinter).

The present memo gives only guidelines, see http://webservices.web.cern.ch/WebServices/docs/AuthDoc/EditWeb/ for further details.

Site structure

The full URL of the site, http://atlas-fcaltb.web.cern.ch/atlas-fcaltb , should be used when opening the site as a Web-folder. The alias cern.ch/atlas-fcaltb can be used to open the site for browsing. Internally, the site is a Web having a structure similar to a file system: it contains files and directories (folders). Each 1st-level folder has a file index.htm which corresponds to a Web-page. The folders contain all fthe stuff  belonging with the corresonding Web-pages. The title page of the site is in index.hmt of the home directory.

Edit with Internet Explorer and FrontPage

Open the Web page cern.ch/atlas-fcaltb (use this alias name or the full name http://atlas-fcaltb.web.cern.ch/atlas-fcaltb/). Click "File/Edit with Microsoft FrontPage".  When prompted, enter the User name and the Password.  Proceed with editing; for reference use the FrontPage online help or  the documentation on http://winservices.web.cern.ch/WinServices/

The documents to be posted can be either directly copied to the server (via Web folder or FTP) or referred by their URLs.

Edit with Netscape and Composer

... if you are more familiar with these applications, or FrontPage is not installed on your machine. Please, add the instructions here - I have little experience with Composer.

AFS documents

For AFS documents, a convenient method to make them "URLable" is by creating links in some AFS directory mapped to the WEB (for example, in /afs/cern.ch/user/p/petr/public/www). On most PCs at CERN, an AFS client is available under Windows. Click on the "lock" symbol on the Task bar and assign a drive letter to the desired /AFS directory. In this way, AFS files can be directly copied to the Web.

Accessing the site as a Web-folder

Under MS WIndows one can open the site as a Web-folder with MS Internet Explorer and the entire Web contents effectively becomes part of the locally accessible file system: one drag-and-drop, modify, delete files etc. To get a Web folder, click File/Open, specify the full site URL http://atlas-fcaltb.web.cern.ch/atlas-fcaltb and check "Open as Web folder". For further accesses, the site becomes visible from the file-system Explorer, under "My Network Places" (or "Web Folders", depending on Windows version).

Importing documents by FTP

Another way to import document to the Web is by FTP. One can put files into any folder on the Web site, for example, a memo on the analysis can be put directly into Memos/Analysis folder, for further integration with the "Memos and Note" page. For general purpose, use the Import folder. I can help with further Web editing. Below, an example of an FTP session under Linux is shown:
